Mary O’Neill is an experienced funeral celebrant based in Hereford. Mary conducts ceremonies in Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire.
I was trained as a Licensed Lay Minister (Reader) in the Church of England but have now retired from this role. However, during those years I was privileged to gain funeral experience as a celebrant as well as preparing and delivering eulogies and tributes.
Friends tell me I am a people person and a good communicator. I am regularly asked to take funerals which is a great honour, and I do my very best to provide a service which matches the families’ wishes and respectfully celebrates the life of the departed.
I am happy to work both within secular and Christian contexts. My aim is to offer support and comfort to those attending a funeral, and to allow people a chance to say goodbye to their loved one in a way of their choosing.
I aim to spend time with the family and friends of the deceased to understand their wishes, and to ensure the Funeral matches their particular and personalised requirements, and becomes the occasion they wish it to be.
“Mary conducted my mother’s funeral. My whole family found great consolation in it, largely down to the way Mary led the service. She approached it with dignity and reverence but we didn’t lose sight of my mother’s zest for life and her positive and cheerful outlook. We were in safe hands as we negotiated a difficult day full of emotion. Thank you, Mary, for such a happy ending to my mother’s life.”
