My name is Mary O’Neill, I am an experienced Celebrant based in Herefordshire.
I am a Funeral and Family Occasions celebrant for people who want to celebrate the life events of loved ones in a joyous and dignified way. Be that formally or informally, in the surroundings of your choice.
I provide professional services for funerals, memorials, naming ceremonies, vow renewals and anniversaries. I am located in Herefordshire but happy to travel further afield including into Wales.
People book me for my experience, humour, and my calm and warm approach. I work with those of all faiths, and none to reassure them that they are in safe hands if they choose me to be their Celebrant.
My undivided attention, nerves of steel, cool as a cucumber and professional approach to organise the ceremony you need: be it a funeral, memorial, naming ceremony or wedding vows renewal for a reasonable and transparent, inclusive fee.
“Mary conducted my mother’s funeral. My whole family found great consolation in it, largely down to the way Mary led the service. She approached it with dignity and reverence but we didn’t lose sight of my mother’s zest for life and her positive and cheerful outlook. We were in safe hands as we negotiated a difficult day full of emotion. Thank you, Mary, for such a happy ending to my mother’s life.”
Faith
Saying goodbye to someone dear is never easy. However, I hope that if you choose me to be your Celebrant, you will know you are in safe hands and be reassured that I will do everything I can to make the occasion special.
Whether it be a funeral or a thanksgiving service after a Direct Cremation, I promise to reflect your wishes at every stage and ensure it reflects the person we are there to remember and whose life we will celebrate.
I am trained as a Licensed Lay Minister (Reader) in the Church of England and have stepped back from this role after 10 years.
During that time I gained considerable funeral experience, including preparing and delivering eulogies and tributes, which supports my work nowadays as a family Celebrant.
Friends tell me I am a people person and a good communicator. I am regularly asked to take funerals and memorials which is a great privilege. I do my very best to provide a service which respectfully and joyously celebrates the life of the departed.
I am happy to work in any context, Christian, non-religious, or with those of other faiths or none. What matters to me is that your wishes are adhered to and the service is what you want it to be. My aim is to offer support and comfort to those arranging and attending the service, and to allow people a chance to say goodbye to their loved one in a way of their choosing.

“Mary was the Celebrant for our Grandmother’s Funeral and was so brilliant, personable and kind that we have asked her to be the Celebrant at our Wedding Celebration next year”
